Exploring Kensington Market: A Mexican Taco Delight in Downtown Toronto

It’s Taco Tuesday on the block! I spent another amazing day with my daughter, Nyi, visiting me from the UK on her summer break. We opted to take a tour to Kensington Market like the good old times, just that this time, I am on a very healthy eating regimen (we will discuss that at another time).

We left Mississauga in the thick of the day at around 2 pm. The sun was shining like it was a perfect summer day. The Gardiner (our highway) was clear, and the drive was relaxing and traffic-free. It took us about 25 minutes to arrive at Kensington Market. I usually park at my old workplace, but this time we had to pivot and park at a metered location on College.

Nestled right in downtown Toronto’s bustling core, Kensington Market buzzes with this infectious energy that just draws you in. The streets are alive with all these cool shops and lively street vendors, each one serving up a little nugget of treasure. And let me tell you, it’s the real deal Mexican food that keeps me coming back for more. From flavorful churros to mouthwatering birria tacos with that savory consommé, to those irresistible Mexican street fruits—there’s no shortage of deliciousness here! In Kensington Market, you can feel that blend of culture, creativity, and culinary magic in every nook and cranny, making each trip an unforgettable journey of discovery and pure delight.

It was a pleasant walk in the heat of the day as we strolled to our favorite taco spots in the GTA. We hit up Seven Lives to eat our favorites: the Baja Fish Tacos – Baja Fish battered and fried fish, cabbage, baja sauce, pico de gallo, and the Camarones a la Diabla – grilled shrimp in a creamy chipotle sauce, cheese, crema, cilantro.

TIPS:
If you’re on the hunt for tasty, affordable, and authentic tacos in Toronto, look no further. The only hiccup? They tend to close up shop on the early side, and they’re closed altogether on Mondays. So, before you make the trek into the city, double-check their hours online to avoid any disappointment.

We couldn’t resist diving into my daughter’s go-to: taquitos from another dope spot, Tacos 101. They’ve got ’em in chicken or potato, and my daughter’s all about the chicken. Paired with some Mexican cheese and guac on the side, these babies were the ultimate tasty treat to top off our Kensington Market escapade.

I hoped this information was helpful and I wish you all the best exploring Kensington Market ! I will keep you updated for any new tastes and summer finds there in the coming months 🙂
